How Much Child Support Will I Receive or Have to Pay?

by | Nov 22, 2019 | Uncategorized

The formula for calculating child support in Illinois changed in July of 2017.  The old formula determined the amount of child support based upon the number of children and a percentage of take-home pay (net income) of the parent who was forced to pay support.  The new formula is based on the take-home pay of both parents and the amount to be paid depends on how many days each parent has overnight parenting time (visitation) with the children at his or her home.  There are also other expenses of the parents that are considered when calculating the child support amount. The idea behind the new formula is calculate the amount each parent should be paying to support the children and to try to more fairly equalize the amount each spends to support the children.  The calculations for the formula can be complicated.  Many lawyers and judges now rely on computer programs to calculate child support.  Attorney Goldie Ludwig at Bruning & Associates can help you calculate the amount of child support you will receive or have to pay.
