Family Law

Guardian Ad Litem

A Guardian ad litem or GAL is usually a divorce lawyer appointed by the divorce court to interview the divorcing spouses, the children, and third-party witnesses such as physicians, teachers, and counselors, and to prepare a report for the court with recommendations as to custody, parental responsibilities, parenting time and visitation. A Child Representative is usually a divorce lawyer also appointed by the Divorce Court to represent the interests of the child in the divorce court proceedings.

The GAL and/or Child Representative is usually paid for by one or both of the parties. The costs related to the work performed by a GAL and/or Child Representative may be substantial. The skilled Crystal Lake divorce lawyers at Bruning & Associates PC have substantial education, training, experience, and expertise with respect to working with GALs and Child Representatives.
